Hoboken to Receive Recycling Grant

Hoboken will receive $37,000 to enhance local recycling, the Department of Environmental Protection announced.

Hoboken is one of 12 municipalities in Hudson County that will receive part of a $866,000 from the state for recycling, according to an announcement.

Hoboken will get $37,033 to implement and enhance local recycling efforts.

According to the announcement from the Department of Environmental Protection, the funds are being awarded through the Recycling Enhancement Act. Statewide, $13.1 million in state grants will be distributed to municipalities.

The recycling grant program is funded by a $3 per ton surcharge on trash disposed at solid waste facilities and this year's distribution is based on the recycling success in the municipalities in 2010.

The rest of hte money will be divided as follows: Bayonne, $91,610; East Newark, $3,847; Guttenberg, $14,599; Harrison, $18,627; Jersey City, $278,748; Kearny, $64,428; North Bergen, $156,716; Secaucus, $47,214; Union City, $85,221; Weehawken, $8,137; West New York, $60,546, according to the DEP's announcement.
