Health Department Closes Spa at L.A. Fitness in Naperville — Again

For the second time in the past six months, the L.A. Fitness at 1836 Freedom Drive in Naperville has been forced to close its spa.

The DuPage County Health Department closed the spa on March 25 as a precautionary measure to protect public health and safety after health officials learned disinfectant levels in the spa did not meet state regulatory standards, according to a health department press release.

The facility operator has been cooperating with the health department during ongoing monitoring of the spa, according to the news release.

"The closure allows the facility operators to consider and implement remedies that will resolve the disinfectant level concerns," according to the news release.

The pool and the remainder of the LA Fitness facility will remain open.

The hot tub was closed by the health department in October after two confirmed cases of Legionnaires' disease were linked to the L.A. Fitness spa.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Legionnaires' disease is a severe form of pneumonia. The disease does not come from person-to-person contact, rather the bacteria usually is inhaled.
