Furstenau Tosses Hat Into County Board Race

Former Naperville city councilman will seek the seat for the Fifth District.

Former Naperville City Councilman announced that he will seek a seat on the DuPage County Board.

Furstenau made the announcement Saturday of his candidacy for the Fifth District primary, which will be held March 20, 2012.

He said that his passion for fiscal responsibility would drive his campaign.

“The fact of the matter is, serving and protecting the taxpayer and accounting for every dollar spent should be the County Board’s first priority, and it certainly is mine,” he said in a news release announcing his candidacy.

Furstenau spent 12 years on the Naperville City Council. He ran for office in the last municipal election but did not retain his seat. He is serving as a member of the DuPage County Water Commission, according to the Furstenau campaign.

He and his wife, Connie, have lived in Naperville for 34 years, raising four sons and one daughter. He retired in 2000 after 33 years with Western Electric/AT&T, where he was employed as a manufacturing and purchasing director.
