Four Fewer Names to Appear on April Ballot

The city announced today that four people did not properly file their candidacy papers.

Four of 15 people who in November to run for Naperville City Council will not be on the ballot.

John Adair, Steve Chirico, John Krummen and Joe McElroy did not submit legally required paperwork with their nomination application by the filing date of Nov. 22, city officials said Wednesday.

"Illinois Election Code and the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requires a candidate to submit a Statement of Economic Interest by the end of the petition filing period," stated a news release sent Wednesday by the city. "State law also mandates that any nomination papers filed by a potential candidate are declared invalid if the Statement of Economic Interest is not received by the filing period end date."

As Naperville's local election official, the city clerk reviews nomination papers and must certify the candidates' names for placement on the ballot by Dec. 16, 2010. Twelve people had filed petitions to run for general city council positions and three for mayor.

Without Adair, Chirico, Krummen and McElroy, there will be eight names on the ballot for the April 2011 municipal election outside of the mayoral seat.
