City Will Issue Show Me's Liquor License

Investigation showed no legal cause to withhold a license. Show Me's accepted some restrictions.

The Naperville Liquor Commission will be granting a liquor license to the Show Me's restaurant set to open at 1126 East Ogden Ave. The city, in a news release said that the commission could find nothing in the company's history to keep them from issuing a liquor license and the company had agreed to some restrictions.

The Missouri-based company is known for its waitresses wearing tank tops and hot pants. The company has three locations in Illinois, Carbondale, Springfield and Fairview Heights.

Residents in Naperville that the restaurant patrons would be responsible for drunk driving near a residential neighborhood, along with other criminal activity. After the city's investigation it found that there were no reports of illegal activity, that the company had a clean background and that there was no legal reason for withholding a license.

"During an open forum, we received feedback from residents that we took very seriously and thoroughly considered in our decision-making process," Mayor A. George Pradel, who is also the city's Liquor Commissioner, said in a news release. "The Liquor Commission met with the owners of Show-Me's in a public forum and conducted an in-depth background check on all of Show-Me's owners and investors. Additionally, I personally reached out to all of the mayors of towns where this establishment is located. Our police department made inquiries with all of the police departments in these towns, and we concluded there is no legal basis in which we can refuse to grant Show-Me's a liquor license."

In response to concerns raised by residents, several restrictions will be imposed on the liquor license issued to Show-Me's, including the following:

  • Show-Me's will close at midnight each day
  • Servers will be required to wear a full T-shirt and shorts with a cuff
  • No outside amplifiers will be permitted
  • No outdoor seating will be permitted
  • No outdoor activities in the parking lot will be permitted
