City Supports Edward Hospital's Tax-Exempt Status

The Naperville City Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting the hospital.

On Tuesday night the Naperville City Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting further deliberation and review of Edward Hospital’s tax-exempt status.

The resolution asks that Gov. Pat Quinn and the city’s contingent of representatives in the Illinois General Assembly consider the benefits the hospital brings to the area, including jobs, revenue, training and support for subsidized health services. The resolution states that even if the hospital’s tax-exempt status were removed, the city would not benefit from increased revenues.

The Illinois Department of Revenue denied tax exemptions to three hospitals, including Edward Hospital, and the governor has asked legislators to put on hold any decisions regarding the tax-exempt status, according to an Associated Press story.
