City Says 15 People File Petitions for Candidacy

The deadline to file for those interested in serving on the Naperville City Council was Monday at 5 p.m. Included is a list of those who have expressed intent to serve the city.

Monday was the last day for  residents to file their candidacy papers if they want to be considered in the April 2011 municipal election.

A total of 15 people did so, according to the Naperville City Clerk's Office. Three of them, including Mayor George Pradel, filed petitions to serve as mayor. A dozen others expressed intent to serve on the city council.

A lottery to determine the order of candidates on the ballot will take place Dec. 1 and will be open to the public at the . All candidates are required to attend.

The order of filing usually determines the position of the candidate's name on the ballot, but more than one person was waiting in line at 8 a.m. Nov. 15, when the window to file petitions opened, calling for a lottery. Any papers that were submitted after that time will be filed in the order they were received, according to a news release sent from the city clerk's office.

The State of Illinois requires that the city clerk's office conduct a lottery within nine days after the conclusion of the filing period.
