Wheeling Man Charged with Child Porn and Criminal Sexual Abuse

Naperville police said the man had been having a relationship with a minor since December.

arrested a Wheeling man Monday with aggravated criminal sexual abuse after officers said he was found with a minor with whom he had been having a relationship.

David E. Kohl, 37, of the 100 block of 6th Street in Wheeling, was arrested at 1:01 p.m. Monday and charged with child pornography, aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim between the ages of 13 to 17, indecent solicitation, predatory aggravated sexual assault-abuse and traveling to meet a minor, according to a news release from the Will County Sheriff's Office.

The girl’s mother called police Monday to report that her daughter was missing, according to Naperville Police Department Sgt. Gregg Bell. During the investigation, police said they were able to determine Kohl’s location in the 2400 block of N. Farnsworth in Aurora. The girl was with Kohl when he was found, officers said.

Bell said he wasn’t sure how the pair met, but they'd had a relationship since December.

The child pornography charge stems from photos that were found, though Bell said he was unsure whether they were taken with a camera or a phone.

Kohl was taken to the Will County Jail and formal charges against him will be presented at a bond call at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
