The car wash, 1983 Brookdale Rd., is located directly next door to Naperville Fire Station number 4, 1979 Brookdale Rd. Crews were dispatched to the scene around 7:30 p.m. Friday and began battling the blaze, which heavily engulfed the gas station's car wash.

Ten pieces of fire apparatus and 26 fire personnel responded to the scene and crews were able to bring the fire under control within ten minutes, according to the Naperville Fire Department.

Thick smoke and flames brought a small group of curious onlookers to the scene of the car wash, which is located west of Naperville's Brookdale neighborhood on the intersection of Brookdale Road and Route 59.

Brookdale resident Christi Grezlik and her two daughters, Madison and Kenna, were among the group of people watching as crews battled the fire.

"We passed by and saw the smoke while driving down Bond Street," Grezlik said. "It's just kind of scary with it being a gas station."

The damage to the building was extensive and is estimated to be approximately $300,000, according to the fire department.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Seems to be a lot more fires in Naperville lately since smart meters have been installed and no one ever comes out with a definitve reason or cause for them? Humm??
Allen T February 02, 2013 at 02:18 PM
This is unincorporated Naperville, we don't have smart meters.
Roy Rumaner February 02, 2013 at 02:34 PM
Gerald you are a real idiot, you know that
Gerard Schilling February 02, 2013 at 04:25 PM
Hay Guys, For the record some individual businesses located in unincorporated Naperville use Naperville electric and if they do they have a smart meter. Have no idea whether this business does or doesn’t and don’t care. All I know is there are and have been a number of electrical fires one last week at a catholic school, North HS has had a couple, a few houses have had fires recently etc. We never read a follow up on the cause(s). If it is idiotic to ask legitimate questions then so be it. Tis better to light one little candle (no pun intended) then burn up in your bed some night. Have a great day trying to pull your collective heads out of the sand.

Gerald, we're hoping maybe you'll spontaneously combust....
Gerard Schilling February 02, 2013 at 05:41 PM
Amazing you would use the name John Galt (the hero of Atlas Shrugged) who would seem to hold beliefs and philosophies diametrically opposed to yours. In any case may I suggest you starch up and press your brown shirts and get the rest of your (we hope group) to practice goose stepping in order to better intimidate, threaten and coerce little children and helpless stay at home moms. It has no effect on me other than to be more determined to resist your thuggery. Have a great day!

Oh, Messrs. Rumaner and Galt, sirs? While I'm hardly a fan of the smart meter screamers, Mr. Schilling's first name is spelled "G-e-r-a-R-d," not "G-e-r-a-L-d." (Of course, Gerard doesn't know how to spell "Hey," so ...) Good ol' Patch! Just CRAWLING with Einsteins.

Gerald if you read the papers the fires started on second floors, inside a garage or inside the buildings. It doesn't look like smart meters are the criminals!
Buford Pusser February 03, 2013 at 10:11 PM
Is it me or does Gerald appear to be a girl boy here and tries to make his comments sound tough and manly!
Gerard Schilling February 03, 2013 at 11:57 PM
It’s you Buford! Come to the city council meeting Tues night at 7PM and see what real men are made of not sniveling cowards like you thugs who hide behind phony names and bully women and children.
Buford Pusser February 04, 2013 at 03:02 PM
Gerald are you serious! You will probably be complaining about the car wash fire at the meeting tonight? I'll be in the crowd lurking watching the fools and you! Gerald there was a kitchen fire at Katy's dumpling house yesterday. Did the smart meter crawl into the kitchen and start the fire?
