The car wash, 1983 Brookdale Rd., is located directly next door to Naperville Fire Station number 4, 1979 Brookdale Rd. Crews were dispatched to the scene around 7:30 p.m. Friday and began battling the blaze, which heavily engulfed the gas station's car wash.
Ten pieces of fire apparatus and 26 fire personnel responded to the scene and crews were able to bring the fire under control within ten minutes, according to the Naperville Fire Department.
Thick smoke and flames brought a small group of curious onlookers to the scene of the car wash, which is located west of Naperville's Brookdale neighborhood on the intersection of Brookdale Road and Route 59.
Brookdale resident Christi Grezlik and her two daughters, Madison and Kenna, were among the group of people watching as crews battled the fire.
"We passed by and saw the smoke while driving down Bond Street," Grezlik said. "It's just kind of scary with it being a gas station."
The damage to the building was extensive and is estimated to be approximately $300,000, according to the fire department.
One firefighter sustained a minor injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
