Video Cameras Coming Soon to Naperville Police Squad Cars

In-car video cameras will be installed on police squads next year.

Video cameras will be coming soon to Naperville Police Department squad cars.

The cameras will record audio and video of every stop that police officers make. The $295,970 purchase was approved last week by the Naperville City Council, according to the Chicago Tribune

According to the police department, the in-car cameras will "enhance officer safety, encourage a safer working environment, increase transparency, promote integrity and objectivity, and are of tremendous assistance to the courts."

The high-definition video cameras from WatchGuard Video will be funded through DUI fees and will be installed next year on 38 police vehicles, the Chicago Tribune reports.

“Used in conjunction with an officer’s testimony, video evidence paints a much better picture for the judge and jury in a courtroom” said Naperville Police Chief Bob Marshall in a release.
