Two Rescued in Whalon Lake Canoe Accident

Two victims pulled from the water Saturday.

Two people were reportedly rescued after falling out of a canoe at the Forest Preserve District of Will County's Whalon Lake preserve.

The incident was handled by forest preserve police with the assistance of the Bolingbrook police and fire departments, according to Bolingbrook Police Lt. Mike Rompa.

Shortly before 7 p.m., Current Incident Notification Services reported that a rescue was under way for two people in the water at Whalon Lake, located on Royce Road west of Route 53. CINS reported that one victim was clinging to a tree prior to being rescued.

Rompa said both victims were brought to safety.

Forest preserve police could not immediately be reached for a comment Saturday night.

According to the forest preserve district website, prior to being acquired by the forest preserve district, the 80-acre man-made lake was used for quarrying.
