Trial Scheduled for Alleged Jewel Thief
Berwyn man accused of taking hundred of thousands in jewelry out of car.
A judge has set a June trial for the 51-year-old Berwyn man accused of stealing approximately $600,000 in jewelry from a parked car last year.
Harold Guzman remains in DuPage County Jail on $150,000 bail — although the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency has a hold on him if he were to be released — on charges of burglary and theft.
said Guzman broke into a 2010 Honda Accord Oct. 27 that was parked at the Red Roof Inn on Diehl Road. He then took "multiple cases of silver jewelry" belonging to a salesman from Cincinnati, Ohio, according to a two-count indictment.

Police said the man was targeted because of the amount of jewelry he kept with him. Guzman wasn't arrested until February after an investigation by Naperville police and other local and federal agencies. A grand jury issued the indictment in March.
Guzman has pleaded not guilty with his trial scheduled to begin on June 28. An interpretor will assist Guzman during the trial, records show.
