Search For Mark Lewis Continues in Homicide Case

Naperville Police Department names 51-year-old a person of interest in connection with identity theft, forgery. Lakemoor police had prior contact with Lewis.

The continues to search for Mark Lewis, the brother of Cathleen Lewis.

After being called to perform a well-being check, officers found , 59, dead Wednesday night in her home at a four-unit condominium complex at 2339 Worthing Drive in , according to a Police Department news release.

A news release from Will County Coroner Patrick O’Neil said, “Ms. Lewis sustained multiple head injuries due to blunt head trauma, due to an assault.” The Will County Coroner’s Office will not release an official cause of death for four to six weeks, pending final toxicology and police reports.

Friday night, the Naperville Police Department named Mark Lewis, 51, a . Prior to being named a person of interest Lewis was considered a missing person. Lewis was last seen in Lakemoor, Ill. driving a 1999 green Ford Explorer with Illinois license plate 775 8696.

Naperville Police Sgt. Gregg Bell said the department’s homicide investigation discovered Thursday, or Friday, that the bank account of Lewis’mother was the victim of identity theft and forgery. Lewis has been named a person of interest in relation to the identify theft and forgery, Bell said.

“It includes that apparently there was some checks written against [Lewis’ mother’s] account,” Bell said. “We have information to believe those checks were forged. He may be responsible for those forgeries.”

Bell said Lewis is needed to answer questions about the identity theft and forgery of his mother’s bank account. The department is not ready to connect Lewis to his sister’s death, Bell said.

“Person of interest means that he’s somebody that we need to talk to, as that he might have information as to the identity theft involving forged checks on his mother’s account,” Bell said. “It’s too early to tell [if there’s a connection] at this point without being able to talk to Mr. Lewis.”

The Naperville Police Department has informed agencies across the nation to concerning the search for Lewis, Bell said. One agency the Naperville police have been working with is the Lakemoor Police Department.

Lakemoor Police Chief William Kushner said Naperville police asked for his department’s help. Kushner said the Lakemoor police have been assisting in the search for Lewis.

Lakemoor police has had prior contact with Lewis, Kushner said.

“We’ve had some contact with him but nothing violent,” Kushner said. “Actually the last couple times we’ve had contact with him it’s been more to check for his well-being.”

Kushner said it has been over a month since the Lakemoor police have been in contact with Lewis.

Police are asking for anyone with information regarding the location of Mark Lewis or the death of Cathleen Lewis to call (630) 420-6147. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (630) 420-6006.

A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for the information that leads to an arrest in the investigation.

Bell said that as of Monday the department has not received any tips through the tip line.

A news release from the Will County coroner’s office said the  in Naperville is coordinating Cathleen Lewis’ funeral. Monday a representative from Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home said it did not have any public details about arrangements.
