Police on Lookout for Copper Pipe Thieves

Vacant homes burglarized on Naperville's southwest side.

Copper pipe is a commodity that thieves are stealing from homes for sale around Naperville.

After several vacant houses on the southwest side of the city had copper piping stolen, Naperville Crime Stopper is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.

The Naperville Police Department is investigating several burglaries where vacant sale homes were entered and had copper piping inside the homes removed, according to a news release from the department.

Police believe the incidents are occurring during the day and ask residents to pay particular attention for suspicious activity at properties that are for sale and are vacant.

“As opposed to approaching any suspicious people at these residences, it is asked that you contact the police department directly and/or document a possible license plate of any suspicious vehicles,” the news release said.
