Police Blotter: Stealing a Sugar Fix; Dog Excrement Smearing

Naperville Police reports, April 8-10.

Sunday, April 10

Warrant arrest

Kelly M. Pastore, 27, of the 500 block of Elite Avenue in West Chicago, was arrested around 9:45 p.m. near the intersection of Ferry Road and North Route 59 on two failure-to-appear warrants, police said. Police said her bail was set at $3,000.

Stealing a sugar fix

Police said a man entered a busy Dairy Queen, 2735 Hassert Blvd., , around 4:45 p.m., when the customer line was out the door. He opened the cooler door and removed an Oreo Blizzard ice cream cake priced at $29.15. He left the store with the stolen cake and fled in a Tan Toyota 4Runner. Employees at the business were able to get a partial license plate of the vehicle that they gave to police.

Toilet papered landscaping

Police said a 47-year-old man, of the 4100 block of Falkner Drive in , reported that between midnight and 8 a.m., someone had toilet papered his landscaped yard. He said he also found toilet paper in his mailbox.

Burglary to a motor vehicle

A 40-year-old man, whose vehicle was parked in the 2300 block of Foxboro Lane in , reported that his unlocked sport utility vehicle was burglarized overnight. He said his GPS was stolen out of the center console. The device was later found and returned to the man.

Attempted burglary

A 57-year-old man, of the 1100 block of Manchester Street in , reported that at some time during the past month, someone tried to enter his home using a prying tool. Police said the attempted burglary was reported around 2 p.m.

Interfering with an officer

Muzammil Bano, 30, of the 24300 block of Champion Drive in Plainfield, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Aurora Avenue and South Whispering Hills Drive and charged with interfering with an officer, according to police. Police said she was a passenger in a vehicle in which the driver was charged with drunken driving. Bano re-entered the vehicle after police asked her not to, they said. "She began entering the console area and was ordered out of the vehicle but refused to comply," stated the report. Her bail was set at $120.

Criminal trespassing to a residence

Philip M. Spooner, 19, of the first block of Bunting Lane in , was arrested around 10 p.m. at his home, police said. He was charged with criminal trespassing to a residence and his bail was set at $1,500.

Driving under the influence

Police said Hani H. Dolat, 32, of the 2100 block of Wesmere Lakes Drive in Plainfield, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Aurora Avenue and South Whispering Hills Drive. He was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count each of speeding, improper lane use and failure to use a turn signal when required. His bail was set at $3,000.

Criminal damage to property

Bradley D. Wahl, 22, of the 800 block of East Francis Road in New Lenox, was arrested around midnight in the first block of West Jefferson Avenue. Police said he was charged with criminal damage to property. His bail was set at $120.

Violating an order of protection

Police said Jonathan J. Mikula, 35, of the 500 block of Bighorn Road in , was arrested around 11 a.m. at his home. He was charged with violating an order of protection and unlawful restraint.

Saturday, April 9

Mystery caulkers

A 64-year-old man, of Bartlett, reported that someone entered a home in the 1900 block of Appaloosa Drive in that belonged to his mother, who has died. The person smeared caulk on a closet door. Police said there were no signs of forced entry and the man said he believed that workers who have been in and out of the house may have left the doors unlocked. He said he believed neighborhood kids were to blame for the caulking.

Missing drums, computer

Police said a 59-year-old man, of the 700 block of Royal Saint George Drive in , reported that at some time since mid-February, a thief pried open the front door of his apartment and stole a computer and an electronic drum set. The burglary was reported around 1 p.m. Saturday.

Purse stolen from locked car

Police said a 37-year-old woman, whose vehicle was parked in the 1000 block of Sherman Avenue in , reported that someone smashed the window of her vehicle and stole her purse. She said she believed the burglary occurred between 7:40 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Fireworks ignite bush

Police said a 42-year-old man, of the 700 block of Sigmund Road in , reported an arson around 9:30 p.m. He said a youngster lit a firework in an evergreen bush, causing it to start on fire.

Stolen scooter

A 44-year-old woman, of the 2000 block of Spartina Road in , reported that her son's battery powered scooter had been stolen. She said the scooter was set outside so she could walk with her son to the park. She said she believed it was taken by two young boys between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Driving under influence of alcohol

Jonathan R. Stafford, 27, of the 700 block of John Street in Yorkville, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. near the intersection of Aurora Avenue and South Washington Street, police said. He was charged with making an improper turn at an intersection, illegal lane use and driving under the influence of alcohol. His bail was set at $3,000.

Police said Pamela L. Mullins, 49, of the 2400 block of Worthington Drive in Aurora, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of East Eighth Avenue and North Washington Street. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding over the statutory limit. Her bail was set at $3,000.

Clayton M. Turner, 21, of the 21W700 block of Park Avenue in Lombard, was arrested around 3:45 a.m. near the intersection of North Route 59 and Ferry Road, according to police. Police said he was charged with illegal lane use, speeding over the statutory limit and two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol. His bail was set at $3,000.

Eyewear theft

Police said that around 1 p.m., a theft was reported from Maxivision Eye Care, 4931 S. Route 59 in . Three pairs of designer sunglasses were stolen from the store between 12:45 p.m. and 1 p.m., according to the report. One pair of BCBG sunglasses valued at $229, one pair of Ellen Tracy sunglasses priced at $221 and one pair of Guess sunglasses marked at $229 were snatched from the business. Police said three women came in together around the time of the theft and were distracting employees. All were estimated to be in their mid 30s.

Minor consumption of alcohol

Michael A. Rynearson, 20, of the 500 bock of Buttonwood Circle in , was arrested around 5 a.m. in the 1600 block of Ishnala Drive. Police said he was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $120.

Making a false police report

Estela Rivera, 24, of the 100 block of Testa Drive in , was arrested around 9:45 p.m. at her home and charged with making a false report of an offense. Police said her bail was set at $1,500.

Warrant arrest

Edward J. Reeder, 28, of the first block of James Drive in Westmont, was arrested around 2:45 a.m. in the first block of East Chicago Avenue on a failure-to-appear warrant out of DuPage County, police said. His bail was set at $3,000.

Police said Lazaro Garcia, 21, of the 1300 block of Liberty Street in Aurora, was arrested around 4 a.m. on a warrant out of DuPage County. He was charged with driving on a suspended/revoked license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. His bail was set at $2,000.

Obstructing justice

Melissa A. Costa, 23, of the 3800 block of North Drake Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 10 p.m. in the 100 block of Testa Drive. Police said she was charged with obstructing justice and her bail was set at $1,500.

Friday, April 8

Warrant arrest

Police said Peggy L. Crawford, 25, of the 700 block of Liberty Street in Wheaton, was arrested around 8 p.m. near the intersection of East Gartner Road and South Washington Street on an original warrant out of DuPage County.

Dog poop smearing

A 64-year-old woman, of the 3000 block of Malvina Court in , reported that a vandal rang her doorbell around 9 p.m. and fled after smearing dog feces all over the front porch.

Retail theft

Barbara L. Glynn, 58, of the 200 block of Richard Road in , was arrested around 12:30 p.m. at Jewel-Osco, 127 E. Ogden Ave., and charged with retail theft. Her bail was set at $120, police said.
