Police Blotter: Splash Guard Smashes Car Window; Swastika Graffiti

Sunday, March 13

Drug-related arrest

Todd M. Hinze, 28, of the 1300 block of Ivy Lane in , was arrested around 8:20 p.m. at his home on an original warrant out of DuPage County, police said. He was charged with possession of less than 2.5 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $5,000.

Benjamin F. Garcia, 25, of the 8S400 block of Barnes Road in Aurora, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of South Route 59 and Aurora Avenue, police said. He was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count each of following too closely, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of less than 2.5 grams of marijuana. His bail was set at $3,000.

Splash guard used to smash car window

A 40-year-old woman, who was parked in the 1600 block of Lonsdale Avenue in , reported that someone threw a concrete downspout splash guard through the passenger side window of her Toyota Venza, police said. She said her Garmin GPS was stolen and that she believed someone broke in between 8 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.

Driving under the influence of alcohol

Adam N. Hopper, 30, of the 1600 block of Country Lakes Drive in , was arrested around 5 a.m. near the intersection of Country Lakes Drive and West Diehl Road, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal lane use, disobeying a traffic control device and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. His bail was set at $3,000.

William P. Uliks, 39, of the 2500 block of Oak Tree Lane in Plainfield, was arrested around 3:15 a.m. near the interaction of East Ogden and Sherman avenues. Police said he was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count each of improper lane use and failure to use a turn signal when required. His bail was set at $3,000.

Arkadiusz Woznica, 38, of the first block of Dundee Quarter Drive in Palatine, was arrested around 10:15 a.m. near the intersection of Route 59 and Amersale Drive, Police said he was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count each of illegal transportation of liquor by a driver and improper lane use

Police said Laverne E. Kertis, 42, of the 500 block of Crystal Avenue in South Elgin, was arrested around 1 a.m. near the intersection of 75th Street and Olympus Drive and charged with speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. His bail was set at $3,000.

Alleged brawling

Michael J. O'Grady, 21, of the 4000 block of Broadmoor Circle in , was arrested around 1 a.m. in the first block of East Chicago Avenue and charged with fighting. Police said O'Grady battered a victim in the parking lot behind Bar Louie. His bail was set at $120.

Warrant arrest

Daniel Ibarra-Garcia, 37, of the 500 block of Ashland Avenue in Aurora, was arrested around 9:30 a.m. near the intersection of Genesee and Woodewind drives on a failure-to-appear warrant, police said.

Aggravated assault, battery

Police said Ryan P. Sheedy, 21, of the 3900 block of Littlestone Circle in , was arrested around 9:30 p.m. at his home. He was charged with aggravated assault, resisting a peace officer, interfering with the reporting of domestic violence and two counts of domestic battery.

Unlicensed and driving under the influence

Byron S. Lemon, 30, of the 500 block of Westin Avenue in Elgin, was arrested around 4 a.m. near the intersection of Ferry Road and Route 59, police said. He was charged with failure to use a turn signal when required, speeding over the statutory limit, driving without a valid driver's license and driving under the influence of alcohol. His bail was set at $3,000.

Saturday, March 12

Disorderly conduct

Joanne D. Warrant, 52, of the 500 block of Kohley Road in Lisle, was arrested around 7:15 p.m. in the 800 block of South Washington Street. She was charged with disorderly conduct, police said. Her bail was set at $1,500.

Swastika graffiti

Police said someone painted a swastika in orange spray paint on playground equipment of a park in the 2700 block of Seiler Drive in . The word "ass" was written on a window and a no trespassing sign was defaced. This is the second incident of its kind in about a week, according to the report, and police were unable to pinpoint a specific time frame for when the vandalism occurred.

Shattered window

A 28-year-old man, who was parked in the 1200 block of West Jefferson Avenue in , reported that someone had broken the back window of his Jeep sport utility vehicle. Police said cars surrounding the Jeep weren't damaged but two weeks ago a vehicle parked in the same area was targeted. The man said he believed someone shattered the window between 3 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Gas 'n go

Police said a woman stole $50.54 in gasoline from a gas station located in the 1700 block if West Ogden Avenue in . They said the theft occurred around 3 p.m. and the woman was about 50 years old. She left in a yellow four-door.

Sex offender is fugitive from justice

Darrius J. Johnson, 24, of the 2400 block of Courtyard Circle in Aurora, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Aurora Avenue and Route 59 on two warrants out of Kansas, police said. He has a history of alleged probation violations and is a registered sex offender, according to the report. He was charged with being a fugitive from justice and driving without a valid driver's license.

Driving under the influence

Jose A. Bolivar, 46, of the 2900 block of Edgington Street in Franklin Park, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Langley Circle and Brookdale Road, police said. He was charged with disobeying a traffic control device, speeding over the statutory limit, improper lane use and driving under the influence of alcohol. His bail was set at $3,000.

Police said David M. Harris, 41, of the 10500 block of South Michigan Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 10:45 p.m. near the intersection of North Route 59 and North Aurora Road. He was charged with two counts each of illegal lane use and driving under the influence of alcohol, and one count each of driving with a suspended/revoked license, driving without wearing a seat belt and illegal possession of liquor by a driver. His bail was set at $3,000.

Pot possession

Darius M. Lemon, 18, of the 2900 block of Twin Falls Drive in Plainfield, was arrested around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Route 59 and Ogden Avenue, police said. When he was pulled over, he and his passenger were both not wearing their seat belts and the "vehicle smelled of burnt cannabis," according to the report. A canine unit led police to 3.4 grams of marijuana in the car, stated the report. He was charged with not wearing a seat belt and possession of marijuana. His bail was set at $120.

Friday, March 11

Stealing scented goods

Police said a 20-year-old woman removed a bottle of women's perfume from its packaging around 3 p.m. at a store located in the 200 block of South Route 59 in . She then stuffed the bottle into her purse and left the store. When confronted by loss prevention officers, she returned the merchandise. She was not charged and there was no loss to the store, police said.

Tire theft

Police said three spare tires were reported missing from three conversion vans that were parked in the parking lot of a business located in the 1000 block of East Ogden Avenue in . They said they believed the tires were swiped between 6 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday.

Aggravated assault

Police said Anthony M. Gibellina, 21, of the 2900 block of Reatini Court in Henderson, was arrested around 12:45 p.m. at a business in the 1600 block of West Diehl Road and charged with aggravated assault. Gibellina threatened the general manager of the business "with a baseball bat following a driving complaint," according to the report. His bail was set at $1,500.

Buying a prescription in the name of a dead parent

Karen Haislip, 48, of the 100 block of Steamboat Lane in Bolingbrook, was arrested around 11:20 a.m. near the intersection of 75th Street and Fort Hill Drive after police said she tried to pick up a fraudulent prescription that was in the name of her deceased mother. She was charged with unlawful acquisition of a controlled substance. Police said her bail was set at $1,500.

Warrant arrest

Police said Eric L. Johnson, 38, of the 3400 block of Bradbury Circle in Aurora, was arrested around 8 p.m. near the intersection of McCoy and Commons Drives in Aurora on a failure-to-appear warrant out of DuPage County. He also was charged with driving with a suspended/revoked license. His bail was set at $10,000.

Police said Nicholas R. Majszuk, 28, of the 700 block of Bohannon Circle in Oswego, was arrested around 4:45 p.m. near the intersection of North Eagle Street and West Ogden Avenue on two failure-to-appear warrants out of DuPage County. His bail was set at $25,000.

Arthur Scott, 28, of the 700 block of Royal Saint George Drive in , was arrested around 11 p.m. at his home on a failure-to-appear warrant out of DuPage County, police said. He was charged with operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving with a suspended or revoked license. His bail was set at $5,000.
