Police Blotter: Chimney Fire; Creepy Man Asks About Panties

Naperville police reports, April 4-7.

Thursday, April 7

Warrant arrest

Police said Keith E. Vermillion, 24, of the 1200 block of South Pine Avenue in Arlington Heights, was arrested around 2 a.m. in the 1300 block of Windemere Avenue on two failure-to-appear warrants.

Retail theft

Manuel Castro, 33, of the 500 block of Simms Street in Aurora, was arrested around 4 p.m. at Goodwill, 539 Fort Hill Drive, and charged with retail theft, police said. His bail was set at $120.

Kelli Jo Campbell, 41, of the 1900 block of Stanford Drive in Naperville, was arrested around 7 p.m. at Little Luxuries, 212 South Main St., and charged with retail theft. Police said her bail was set at $1,500.

Police said Michele E. Phillips, 44, of the 1200 block of Santa Fe Road in Romeoville, was arrested around 9 p.m. at a business in the 1300 block of South Route 59, and charged with retail theft. She stole $160.37 worth of merchandise, police said. Her bail was set at $1,500.

Chimney fire

Police said a 51-year-old man, of the 500 block of Beaconsfield Avenue in Naperville, reported that he had extinguished a fire in his chimney. About 30 minutes later, the chimney and fire place ignited and the Naperville Fire Department responded around 8:25 p.m. The fire was extinguished and no one was injured.

Driving under the influence of alcohol

Douglas J. Andrews, 52, of the 2700 block of Shellingham Drive in Lisle, was arrested around 2 a.m. near the intersection of South Naper Boulevard and Keswick Lane. Police said he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and improper lane use. His bail was set at $3,000.

Denise Flores, 23, of the 5S500 Block of Tuthill Road in Naperville, was arrested around 2 a.m. in the first block of East Chicago Avenue. Police said she was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count each of leaving the scene of an accident with vehicle damage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Her bail was set at $3,000.

Driving under the influence of drugs

Aleyce K. Chernobrov, 36, of the 100 block of West Saint Charles Street in Lombard, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Dewhurst Street and Leverenz Road, police said. She was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, disobeying a stop sign and interfering with an officer. Her bail was set at $3,000.

Wednesday, April 6

Items from burglary recovered near local pond

A 52-year-old man, whose car was parked in the 500 block of Harlowe Lane in Naperville, reported that his vehicle was burglarized between 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. He said he left his Saturn unlocked and parked in the street, near where he was visiting a friend. Items missing from his black leather wallet included his driver's license, a Firearm Owner's Identification card, an expired debit card and various business cards. The items were found near a pond, police said.

Creepy man asks about panties

A 30-year-old woman, who works at a business in the first block of East Chicago Avenue in Naperville reported that a suspicious man entered the store around 3 p.m. He had reddish brown hair and was tall and very thin. He was wearing a brown leather jacket and had a bowl haircut "like Jack Tripper from Three's Company," according to the report. The woman reporting the incident said he smelled of alcohol and was "asking about bras and undergarments for his 'wife' who was not allowed to come into the store."

Utility box graffiti

Police said that utility boxes near the intersection of Ranchview and Appaloosa drives in Naperville had been sprayed with paint. They said the letters "bws" were written, along with drawings of male genetalia and the word "f---." The graffiti was found around 11:40 a.m.
