OMG PD: Crafty Thief, Vanishing Act, Joy Ride

A roundup of unusual crimes in Naperville.

Vanishing act 

An unattended purse was stolen in approximately 10 seconds in the 700 block of South Route 59, police said. The purse contained an iPhone 3, Versace prescription glasses, three debit cards, two credit cards, a checkbook, driver’s license and $15. 

Keep the change

Three dollars in change was taken from a center console of a vehicle in the 1000 block of Langley Circle, police said.

Joy ride

A vehicle that was secured in a garage was driven by someone while the family was out of the state on vacation between June 2 - 8 in the 2600 block of High Meadow Road, police said.

Bad day for cabbie

A suspect who didn’t have money to pay for his cab ride stole the cab driver's phone and ran when the driver went to call 911 in the 1500 block of North Aurora Road, police said.

Crafty thief

Someone opened up an allen wrench and used the wrench to remove a sawblade off a Rockwell Sonicrafter oscillating tool in the 700 block of Fort Hill Drive. The suspect then placed the sawblade inside a package of another sawblade. Estimated loss is $139, police said.
