Naperville Teen Dies in Accident Overnight

Police said Thomas Gleason wasn't wearing his seat belt when he hit a tree early Saturday morning.

A Naperville teen died overnight after the SUV he was driving hit a tree, according to the Naperville Police Department. Police identified the driver as Thomas Gleason, 18, of Fox River Drive.

Members of the Naperville Police and Fire departments responded to a 911 call at about 1 a.m. in the area of Canyon Run and Golf Drive for the report of a vehicle hitting a tree, according to a news release from the .

Upon arrival, responders found a 2006 Pathfinder in the front lawn of 1845 Golf Drive, the news release said. Gleason, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was taken to where he later died as a result of injuries received in the accident.

The initial police investigation indicates that Gleason was westbound on Canyon Run at Bristlecone Court when his vehicle left the roadway and entered the property of 1845 Golf Drive where it struck a tree in front of the house, police said. Gleason was not wearing his seat belt.

Because of the nature of the accident, the Naperville Police Department had members of the department’s Traffic Unit trained in accident reconstruction respond to the scene to investigate the accident. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
