Chicago Teen Charged in Naperville Armed Robbery

A Chicago teen has been charged in connection with an armed robbery and attempted armed robbery in Naperville.

Police said a 17-year-old male was arrested Sunday after police investigated two armed robbery-related incidents, which occurred within minutes of each other in Naperville Sunday morning.

The teen, who was allegedly driving a stolen 2005 Nissan Pathfinder out of Chicago, was apprehended after a foot pursuit in Naperville following an attempted armed robbery at 11:09 a.m. in the 400 block of Apple River Drive, according to police.

Police said an armed robbery also occurred minutes earlier at 10:50 a.m. in the 200 block of Briarheath Lane. In that incident, the juvenile stole a tablet computer after approaching a victim on foot and threatening the victim with a BB gun, which closely resembled a hand gun, according to police.

Following those incidents, the stolen SUV as well as the teen were located by police after officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 2400 block of Worthing Drive, police said.

Police said the 17 year old was charged with two counts of armed robbery and one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Police did not specify whether Sunday's incidents were related to a separate attempted armed robbery in the 600 block of Porter Avenue at 5:53 p.m. Saturday.

According to police, a man was approached by an armed suspect who demanded his cellphone and wallet after showing the man a hand gun. The victim was able to quickly flee to his home unharmed without giving the suspect anything, according to police.

The suspect was described as a 6-foot black male weighing 175 pounds. Police said he was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and jeans and armed with a semi-automatic hand gun.

Police searched the area with the assistance of a police K9, but were unable to find the armed man.
