Naperville Police and Fire to Host Blood Drive

The Naperville Police and Fire Departments are teaming up with the Heartland Blood Centers in supporting a "Guns & Hoses" blood drive on Jan. 20.

Information submitted by Naperville Police Department.

The Naperville Police and Fire Departments are teaming up with the Heartland Blood Centers in supporting a “Guns & Hoses” blood drive on Jan. 20, at the Naperville City Hall located at 400 S. Eagle St., from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Heartland Blood Centers supply blood to over 170,000 patients each year. Recipients range from people who have lost blood during surgery or because of an accident to people who have cancer or severe anemia, and other reasons. Less than 5 percent of eligible Americans actually donate blood which means only a very small number of people are shouldering this responsibility for all of us. At some time in our life, though, any one of us could need a blood transfusion.

Right here in our community, patients at Edward Hospital are counting on us to make their surgery or treatment possible. Edward Hospital is the 3rd highest user out of the 48 other hospitals in Illinois and northwest Indiana that Heartland services.

In order to create some friendly competition between the Naperville Police and Fire Departments, donators will be asked which department they would like to represent. A free Police/Fire themed t-shirt will be given out to participants. The department with the most contributions will receive a trophy and plaque. This blood drive is open to all members of the community.
