Naperville Mom Ticketed for Weed, Texting While Driving with Toddler: Police Blotter

A 25-year-old Naperville woman is headed to court after she was found with marijuana blunts and texting while driving with her baby in Downers Grove, police said.

Lauren Iacovella, of the first block of Redstart Road, was charged with possession of cannabis 30 grams and under. She also received a ticket for texting behind the wheel during the incident, which occurred at 3:49 p.m. May 21.

Since Iacovella had her two-year-old toddler in the car with her at the time, an officer asked her to follow him to the Downers Grove Police Department to be processed after an initial traffic stop. She agreed.

Police first saw Iacovella drive her black 2011 Ford Fusion while texting on a phone on the 5900 block of Main Street, according to a report. When an officer went to speak with her, he could smell cannabis in her car.

"While waiting (for a second unit) I asked Lauren where the cannabis was in the car," the report said. "Lauren then pulled back a piece of paper covering several smoked blunt roaches in the ash tray."

Police searched the vehicle and found another blunt in the driver's door map compartment along with used sandwich "baggies," rolled up money and a large $40 digital scale in the trunk.

Iacovella was processed and charged at the police department. She was released on I-bond and received a July 15 court date.
