"Christopher Carter is a vile sexual predator who has certainly earned his jail sentence,” said DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin in a press release. “These two young girls needed support, sympathy and love. Instead they were assaulted, abused and neglected. By the time they were teenagers they had suffered years of sexual abuse from a man who cared nothing about them."

Both girls were sent to live with Carter at his Naperville apartment in late 2004. At that time, one of the girls was 10 years old and the other was 7. Shortly after the girls began living at Carter's apartment, he began sexually assaulting the older girl, according to the release.

Assaults against the younger sister began in 2007, when she was about 10 years old. Both girls continued to be assaulted until May 2008, when one of the victims told a friend who in turn alerted authorities.

"The strength these girls showed at such a young age in coming forward and confronting their abuser is astounding," Berlin said.
