Naperville Man Gets 10 Years for Role In Home Invasion

Clarence Guyton is the second of four suspects to receive prison time related to the June 2011 incident.

A DuPage County judge sentenced a 19-year-old Naperville man to a decade in prison for his role in a 2011 home invasion.

Clarence Guyton, who pleaded guilty to attempted armed robbery, was one of four men charged after a woman said the men broke into her Fairway Drive apartment in June, threatened her and a child, and took a cell phone.

with no guarantee on his sentence. Judge Daniel Guerin issued the 10-year prison term to Guyton on Tuesday. Guyton received credit for time served in DuPage County Jail since his June arrest. Prosecutors dropped five other counts against him.

Guyton, Kendyl Gill, Brandon Reynolds and Robert Jackson were arrested on charges they on Fairway Drive in June 2011 and stole a cell phone. 

“According to the victim, one of the suspects was armed with a gun and threatened to shoot her and her 2-year-old child,” the said after the incident.

A Naperville police officer briefly had Guyton in as part of a traffic stop shortly after the home invasion occurred, police previously said. At the time, the officer did not know about Guyton's reported involvement. Guyton was charged with lying about his name, failure to wear a seat belt and was then released.

Of Guyton’s three co-defendants, one other has also pleaded guilty. pleaded guilty to one count of home invasion in his own deal with prosecutors. He is currently serving a six-year prison sentence in the Sheridan Correctional Center.

The two remaining suspects – Kendyl Gill and Brandon Reynolds – still have charges pending against them. Reynolds is scheduled for a March 27 hearing, while Gill returns to court on April 10.
