La Grange police have arrested a man who is accused of taking money from donation boxes at St. Francis Xavier Church, 124 N. Spring Ave.
Daniel S. Blubaugh, 31, of 1300 block of east Ogden Avenue in Naperville, has been charged with burglary to a place of worship, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest, according to La Grange Police.
Over the last year or so officials at St. Francis Xavier Church noticed a pattern of Sunday donations that were missing, police said. Two police investigators hid inside the church and arrested Blubaugh after he was found inside the church early Monday.
Police were uncertain whether Blubaugh was involved in any of the other alleged thefts, and would only comment on the most recent incident.
At about 1:20 a.m. Monday, the investigators said they saw Blubaugh enter the church and remove cash from donation boxes. Police ordered him to stop, said he fled and was caught after a brief chase. Police said $79 was taken.
He worked alone and is not affiliated with the church, La Grange Police said.
Blubaugh will be in bond court on Tuesday in the 5thMunicipal District Court building in Bridgeview.
