Naperville Man, 70, Flees Scene of Crash; Charged with DUI in Yorkville

Mario Perea is accused of leaving the scene of a crash in Oswego, just minutes before being stopped on suspicion of DUI in Yorkville.

A 70-year-old Naperville man was arrested on a DUI charge in Yorkville, just minutes after being cited for leaving the scene of a crash in Oswego.

Mario Perea, of the 1800 block of Auburn, was stopped by Oswego police at around 6:38 p.m. after allegedly leaving the scene of a crash at Route 71 and Orchard Road.

Oswego Police Capt. Jeff Burgner said Perea allegedly rear-ended another vehicle as it was stopped at a red light heading west on Route 71. Following the accident, Perea reportedly drove away, according to police.

Perea was then stopped by Oswego police and charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving an uninsured vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident. No one was hurt in the crash, Burgner said, and Perea was released after being cited by police.

According to the Aurora Beacon, Perea was stopped again, this time by Yorkville police, at 6:50 p.m., for improper lane use at Route 47 and Greenbriar Road. Yorkville police reportedly determined that Perea was under the influence of alcohol.

Perea was charged with DUI, improper lane usage, having one headlight, no insurance and illegal transportation of alcohol in the Yorkville incident.
