Metra Train Kills Pedestrian

Inbound train strikes victim near 5th Avenue Metra Station around 4 p.m.

A Burlington Northern Santa Fe train hit and killed a pedestrian near the 5th Avenue Metra station, according to Metra.

The incident occurred at about 4:15 p.m. Friday and the pedestrian was hit about a quarter-mile east of the station, a Metra official said.

Metra has confirmed that the accident was fatal, said spokeswoman Judy Pardonnet.

Metra Police were on the scene Friday night, and an official said they could not provide information on the victim or how the accident occurred. An investigation could take some time, said Mike Gillis, a Metra spokesman.

Naperville police said they did not have any information to release about the incident at this time.

Trains were stopped temporarily, but are running again to and from the city, according to Pardonnet.
