Lightning Strike Causes Scottsdale Circle House Fire Sunday Afternoon

Fire officials estimate damage to exceed $300,000 at the home in the 3500 block of Scottsdale Circle.

A Naperville home has been declared uninhabitable after a damaging fire was caused by a lightning strike Sunday afternoon in the 3500 block of Scottsdale Circle.

A 911 call reported the fire shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday, and 24 members of the were immediately sent to the home. Less than 10 minutes later, the first responders arrived on the scene to find heavy fire and visible smoke coming from the roof.

After confirming that the residents were no longer in the home, fire personnel went to the home’s second floor to begin battling the blaze. The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes once the Fire Department arrived, but personnel remained on the scene for another hour and a half afterward.

No injuries resulted from the fire, though it did cause more than $300,000 in damage, according to reports. A building inspector from the city’s declared the home uninhabitable until repairs are made, and its residents were placed in a hotel for the time being.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the and Naperville Emergency Management Agency, as well as emergency vehicles from the Lisle-Woodridge, Plainfield and Oswego fire protection districts.
