Guilty Plea in Shoe Store Crash

Driver fined, given court supervision in January incident at Shoe Carnival.

A woman accused of crashing into a Route 59 shoe store and fleeing the scene has pleaded guilty to a minor traffic charge, court records show.

Kathryn Miller, 23, of the 1000 block of Fairway Drive, originally was charged with failing to provide information after causing property damage in a vehicle vs. storefront accident on Jan. 15 at Shoe Carnival, 304 S. Route 59. She pleaded guilty last week to an amended charge of improper lane usage. A judge fined her $350 and placed her on court supervision.

Police responded to an alarm at the store just before 2:30 a.m. that January morning to find that a vehicle had crashed through the front doors. Pieces of Miller's 2007 Mini Cooper were found at the scene, but not the car or its driver, police reported.

Miller contacted police later that day, saying she had fallen asleep at the wheel, authorities said earlier this year.
