Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Balcony Fire Saturday Afternoon

Nobody was home at the time of the balcony fire.

An apartment balcony at the Amli Apartment complex, located near Corday Drive and Emerson Lane, caught fire Saturday but was quickly extinguished. Nobody was home at the time.

Firefighters responded to the fire call at in the 800 block of Corday Drive at about 12:07 p.m. Several crews, trucks and police responded to the call.

The fire was contained to the balcony, said Capt. Dave Ferreri. The resident was not home at the time of the fire. The apartment where the balcony fire occurred was not damaged and neighboring apartments were undamaged.

Ferreri said Saturday afternoon the cause of the fire was unknown. On Monday officials said in a news release that it is believed that discarded smoking materials caused the fire, which caused about $10,000 in damage.
