Fire Injures One Person Saturday Night

The Naperville Fire Department responded to an apartment fire Saturday night that caused about $70,000 in damage.

A resident was injured Saturday night as a result of an apartment fire at 1517 W. Jefferson Street, according to the . The resident was taken to for treatment.

Firefighters responded to a 911 call at 11:21 p.m. on Saturday night. When they arrived, crews found smoke coming from a second floor apartment. Firefighters began to attack the fire and other firefighters searched all three floors looking for residents, said Division Fire Chief, Mark T. Ziemnik in a news release.  An elderly resident, who was uninjured, was rescued from a third floor apartment.

The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes of the department’s arrival, Ziemnik said in the release.

He said one resident of the apartment building was injured and taken to Edward Hospital, but no firefighters were injured in the incident.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated and the apartment where the fire started is uninhabitable until repairs are made, he said. Damage to the apartment was estimated at $70,000. The residents of the apartment are staying with friends until other arrangements can be made, Ziemnik said in the news release.

The department dispatched 24 personnel and 10 pieces of equipment to the fire.
