Fire Causes Damage to Traverso's Restaurant Friday Night

A Naperville restaurant was damaged due to a kitchen fire Friday night.

A small kitchen fire caused about $15,000 in damage to a Naperville restaurant Friday evening.

No one was injured in the fire, which started in the kitchen of Traverso's Restaurant, 2523 Plainfield Naperville Rd., shortly before 7 p.m. Friday night, according to the Naperville Fire Department.

Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received an activated fire alarm from Traverso's Restaurant around 6:51 p.m. After the first unit was dispatched, a restaurant employee called 911 to report a fire inside the restaurant's kitchen, according to the fire department.

The dispatcher told the employee to evacuate the building and immediately dispatched a general alarm response, which brought an additional 10 emergency vehicles and 25 fire personnel to the scene, according to the fire department.

Crews arrived to the scene within three minutes and found a "small fire in the kitchen that was extinguished within a few minutes," according to the fire department. 

The cause of the fire is listed as unintentional and "due to prolonged exposure to excessive heat," according to the fire department.

Damages are estimated at $15,000 and the restaurant will remained closed until inspected by the Will County Health Department.
