File a Police Report With the Click of a Mouse

Naperville police are making a new system available Monday.

When something goes awry, it's not always feasible to get to the police department to file a report. So officials in Naperville are making the process easier.

Starting Monday at 9 a.m., filing a police report will be as simple as logging onto the Internet. The will begin offering online reporting for those residents wishing to file documents about crimes or other incidents.

"(It) will allow citizens to file a police report for non-emergency incidents at any hour, day or night," stated a news release sent by the department Friday. "The intent of this new online reporting service is to enhance the public’s ability to interact with the department and free up patrol officers for emergency calls."

Civil matters of record, criminal property damage totaling less than $300, dumping or littering, lost property, nuisance complaints or thefts of less than $300 worth of belongings can all be reported, said the release.

“We are very excited to offer unprecedented access to the (department),” Naperville Police Chief David Dialsaid. “Online reporting is an instrument that supports (our) mission of providing professional, high quality and effective police service in partnership with the community.”
