Court Watch: District 203 Officials Object to Records Request in Sex Abuse Case

The attorney for John Carbonaro, who was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault in 2011, is seeking student records.

officials are objecting to a request for school records made by the attorney for , who was charged in February 2011 with aggravated criminal sexual assault after being accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl.

Carbonaro's attorney is seeking school records of two students at , where Carbonaro worked as a counselor until his arrest on sex abuse charges last year.

Carbonaro's attorney sent subpoenas to the school district for records of the girl who prosecutors said was fondled by Carbonaro in 2010, as well as records of a second girl, according to court documents. The district argues the request is too broad and that the records are protected from being released on privacy grounds.

In February 2011, a concerned parent contacted the school's principal to relate information about a relationship that Carbonaro had with a student. District officials contacted authorities to begin an immediate investigation at that time. 

Carbonaro, 34, was indicted on eight counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in March. He returns to court Jan. 6.
