CBS 2 Reporter Dave Savini, of Naperville, Pleads Guilty to DUI; Other Charges Dropped

As part of a deal, charges of battery, endangering the life of a child and leaving the scene of a minor traffic accident were dropped, according to media reports.

CBS 2 Chicago reporter Dave Savini, who lives in Naperville, entered a guilty plea Tuesday to a charge of driving under the influence alcohol, according to the Daily Herald. 

As a part of a plea deal, prosecutors dropped charges of battery, endangering the life of a child and leaving the scene of a minor traffic accident, according to the article. 

A judge ordered Savini, 47, be placed on supervision for a year, pay a $1,700 fine, perform 200 hours of community service, receive alcohol counseling and attend a victim impact panel, according to the Chicago Tribune. 

The Chicago Tribune reports he had his son, 14, and his son's friend in the vehicle at the time of an accident on Jan. 4 in the parking lot of a Taco Bell where he "backed into the bumper hitch on another vehicle."

The Naperville Sun reported that Savini was pulled over a short time later near Saratoga and Plainfield-Naperville roads. He was arrested about 3/4-quarter miles from the Taco Bell and his his blood alcohol level was .13, according to the Chicago Tribune. 

Savini has worked for CBS 2 since July 2004. In 2008, Savini won the Alfred I duPont-Columbia University Award for his reporting on holes in security at O'Hare International Airport.

Savini's page on the CBS 2 website states that he has won 12 local Emmy awards and 29 Associate Press awards.
