Bristol Kendall Firefighter Dies

Dawn Brown, a firefighter/ paramedic with the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District, died Monday at her home.

The Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District is mourning the death of a colleague today.

Dawn Brown, a firefighter/ paramedic, died Monday at her Big Rock home, the result of an apparent accident, Chief Michael Hitzemann said Tuesday morning. She was off duty at the time.

“She was a kind and caring person … a quality person,” a shaken Hitzemann said. “We’re just devastated.”

Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies and Big Rock EMS found Brown deceased inside her home. Deputies were dispatched to the home at about 4:15 p.m. Monday, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy regarding this death, according to a report in Batavia Patch.

Brown, 44, was a member of the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District and the Big Rock Fire Department. She had been with Bristol Kendall since June of 2007.

Her death comes on the heels of the deaths of two firefighters in Chicago, which Hitzemann said had shaken firefighters in Kendall County.

In addition to her duties as a firefighter and paramedic, Brown served as a member of the district’s honor guard, a group that participated in the memorial services of other fallen firefighters.

Brown is survived by her husband.

No funeral arrangements have been made yet, Hitzemann said.

Patch will update the story as more information is available.

The family will be in my prayers. I will pray for them with my life group at Grand Canyon University.

Dawn was just one of those people who immediately put you at ease during emergency situations and she was just an overall good person. I only knew her briefly, but I could tell what a kind and caring person she was. My sympathies to her family, friends and co-workers here at BKFD.

I used to ride the train into Chicago, and I would always see her on there. I remember her studying, and she was such a nice lady! I'm so sorry to read this news!

This is very sad news. I knew Dawn in Jr. High and High School. Everyone thought very highly of her and know she will be missed. She was a very good person. We will all miss her. My thoughts are with her family.

So sorry for the families loss. Dawn and I worked together many years ago and she was always smiling and such an amazing fun woman. She will be missed. My prayers are with the family.
