Bolingbrook Drug Ring Member Sentenced to 16 Years in Prison: Officials

Alfredo Garcia, 36, is the fourth member of a suspected seven-member cocaine drug ring busted in 2011.

A 36-year-old Bolingbrook man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after he was convicted in August of drug charges, according to DuPage County officials.

Alfredo Garcia, of the 100 block of Farm Gate Lane, was found guilty of one count of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver in August.

Garcia was arrested in July 2011 at La Playa Cantina restaurant in Glen Ellyn, where suspected drug sales were taking place. Six others were also arrested at the time, including the restaurant's owner. Also arrested were:

  • Luis Sanchez, of Chicago (case pending)
  • Oscar Colin, of Cicero (sentenced to nine years IDOC)
  • Luz Vidal, of Chicago (sentenced to 12 years IDOC)
  • Restaurant owner, Venustiano Calderon, of Lombard (case pending)
  • Salma Sanchez-Hernandez, of Cicero (case pending)
  • Marciano M. Diaz, of Chicago (sentenced to 300 days and deported)

The drug bust resulted in the seizure of four kilos of cocaine with a street value of $120,000, according to officials.

Garcia's sentencing is the result of a month-long investigation led by the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group (DuMEG) with the assistance of the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office and several local law enforcement agencies.

“When combatting drug dealers, cooperation between law enforcement agencies is essential,” Berlin said in a release.

“My office will continue to work with DuMEG and other law enforcement agencies to disrupt and hopefully dismantle these drug rings. I would like to thank DuMEG as well as the Glen Ellyn, Addison and Lombard Police Departments for their outstanding police work in this case. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Audrey Anderson for her continued efforts in ridding the streets of illegal narcotics.”

Garcia will be required to serve 75 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
