Late Thursday afternoon issued a message to parents alerting them to a situation at involving a school custodian. According to a story in the Naperville Sun, the custodian was accused of indecent exposure and battery related to an incident involving another school employee.

District Superintendent Mark Mitrovich stated in his message to parents that no students were involved or at present at the time of the incident. Mitrovich did not explain what had occurred, but the Sun reported that the custodian, Kenneth R. Brown, was being held in DuPage County Jail after being charged with aggravated battery and public indecency.

The district suspended the custodian without pay and he is barred from returning to the school, Mitrovich said. School employees were notified and told of the actions to take should the man return to the school grounds.

“It is unfortunate that a situation has occurred, but what is most important at this time is that all families realize the situation is under control and no students were involved or present at the location of the incident,” Mitrovich said in his message. “I want to stress to all of our families that District 203 takes allegations of misconduct by any staff member very seriously. It is important that anyone who feels the actions of a staff member have been inappropriate bring their concerns to the attention of their school principal or District administration immediately."

Police responded to the school at about 3:18 p.m. when students had already been dismissed for the day, said Naperville Police Sgt. Gregg Bell in a news release issued Friday morning.

When the police officers arrived they were told that Brown had exposed himself to a female employee, making contact with her and then fleeing on foot before police arrived, Bell said in the release.

Police search nearby areas and found Brown on the south side of the downtown Naperville train depot, Bell said. He was taken into police custody without incident.

Brown, of the 2800 block of White Thorn Circle, was charged with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony and public indecency, a Class A misdemeanor.
