Apartment Left Uninhabitable in Monday Night Blaze

Residents were able to safely escape the fire at the Preserve at Cress Creek, according to officials.

A fire within a unit in a high-rise apartment complex on Naperville's north side Monday night left the residence uninhabitable, but Naperville Fire Department officials said the occupants escaped safely.

A 911 call about a kitchen fire at the Preserve at Cress Creek in the 700 block of Royal Saint George Drive was received at about 10:46 p.m., according to Mark Thurow, chief of EMS for the Naperville Fire Department. The department dispatched 10 pieces of equipment and 24 firefighters and paramedics to the scene.

The first crew at the fire made its way to the seventh floor and found a lot of smoke in the hall, Thurow said. The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes, but a crew remained at the scene for another 45 minutes.
