Ribfest Security Guard Dies from Heart Attack

Carl Jones, 63, suffered an attack on Saturday while working the festival and passed away at Edward Hospital.

A security guard suffered a heart attack while working the Ribfest festival in Naperville over the weekend and passed away at a nearby hospital, the Chicago Tribune reports.

According to the paper, Carl Jones, 63, of Chicago an employee of S3: Safety Service Systems, Inc., was transported to Edward Hospital around 7 p.m. on Saturday evening after falling ill, and did not survive. He had worked for the company for just under a year, the paper said.

"He just didn't feel good and was sent to the hospital," Mary Beth Gerlach, vice president of business management for S3, told the Daily Herald. "He was a good person and an excellent employee, a well-liked gentlemen... It's been a rough week."

Ribfest marketing chairwoman Julie Lichter told the Tribune that the event-organizing Exchange Club of Naperville is "saddened by the loss."
