Naperville Public Library Receives State Grant for New Roof on Nichols Library

The State of Illinois awarded the Naperville Public Library $125,000 for a new roof on the nearly 30 year old Nichols Library.

Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White announced that the Naperville Public Library was awarded a FY2012 Live and Learn Construction Grant.  The $125,000 grant will be used to remove and replace the roof at the Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave. Across Illinois 16 public libraries received grants to help pay for essential capital improvements. Naperville was one of only two libraries to receive a $125,000 grant.

“This generous grant from the Secretary of State, combined with assistance from the City and our own capital reserves, will allow us to fully fund much-needed repairs at the Nichols Library,” says John Spears, Executive Director, Naperville Public Library. “We are extremely grateful for this support and look forward to working with the Secretary’s Office and the State Library to replace the nearly 30-year old roof with a greener roof that will better protect our building and substantially lower our energy-costs.”

State Librarian Jesse White notes that, “This important program helps public libraries pay for projects such as remodeling for handicapped accessibility, new heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, and in some cases new construction or building additions,” White said. “I am pleased to be able to award these grants through the Illinois State Library to help maintain the infrastructure of our public libraries, and help them remain the best information resource available to citizens.”
