Wow! There’s cakes and cupcakes. Tortes and tea sets. Lots of slices and strawberries. The list of yummy treats in Kate Yamasaki’s display are endless. Looking in the glass case at the Naperville Public Library makes you want to run, not walk to the nearest restaurant for dessert! The display at the Naper Boulevard Library is in celebration of the Naperville Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, “Reading is So Delicious.”
It’s a sweet magnet for kids. “Look at the Madelyn tea set,” one little girl enthuses. Her mom reminds her of the many times they’re read the series of books. A little boy just points to the chocolate cake and looks up at his mom with a big smile on his face!
The sweet treat display is just the latest creation of Kate Yamasaki, an Adult and Teen Services staff member at the Naper Boulevard Library. Over the past four years, she’s created many different displays for the large glass sided display case. A trademark of Kate’s displays is extreme attention to detail. Just like the current virtual dessert display, her exhibits are always filled with many wonderful, different and often exotic objects.
Viewing of the zero-calorie sweet display is available during the Naperville Boulevard Library’s open hours. The library is located at 2035 S. Naper Blvd.
The display is in celebration of the library’s Summer Reading Program is an all ages, eight-week long activity. There are four categories - the Rubber Ducky Club for babies up to 35 months, the children’s program for kids from three years old to entering the fifth grade, the teen program for students entering the sixth grade to completing high school, and the adult program – everyone else!
Non-Naperville residents may also join the Naperville Summer Reading Program for the nominal fee of $5.00. Register in person at any of the three Library buildings – the Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave.; the Naper Boulevard Library, 2035 S. Naper Blvd., and the 95th Street Library, 3015 Cedar Glade Dr.
