FLIPPIN' THE BIG BIRD

If modern medicine was like current politics, Candidate 1 would say that cutting wrists and bleeding into a bowl is good for you; While candidate 2 would say that his chanting would do the trick.

FLIPPIN’ THE BIG BIRD

During the election campaigns…appropriately dubbed the “silly season”…which now run 365 days a year on every partisan cable channel that calls itself a “News” program… we get a steady diet of quotes, half-quotes, sound bites, innuendo and gaffs that make many of us cringe like we’re going to be water-boarded…again!

Every candidate tells us in excited, emergency and panicked tones…how this election sets the stage for generations…and we must make the right decision or all is lost.  Then, if you’re anything like me, I sit bewildered by the myriad facts, financial projections and estimated effects that the candidate attributes to un-named economists, experts and the American public.

These statements are then immediately followed by the other candidate…who refutes the opposing candidate’s myriad facts, financial projections and estimated effects as lies, or bad math or not based on anything but political ambition.

Just once, I’d like to hear the candidates agree on a list of ten things that need attention…and then go item by item…explaining how they would go about addressing each issue.  Once they have voiced their ideas on addressing each of the ten issues…then America could make a decision.

Just once, I’d like a debate forum where the moderator shows a screen with a graphic that comes from unbiased sources…like the Congressional Budget Office, etc…. and has the candidates explain  their take on what it says and how they would set about changing it.

Lastly…I hate it when each candidate tells everyone within earshot that America (that’s you and me) wants what they have to sell.  It would be much more accurate to say …. The 1500 folks that attended my rally in Pittsburg like my ideas!  Or…The guy I met at a pizza place in Peoria says he’s voting for me!
Or…My party thinks they have a good shot at winning with me…and since there are two major parties…that must mean at least 50% of America likes me!!!!
Right!!!

It’s no wonder why politics, and our federal government, has the worst approval ratings EVER!  Our politicians know SOMEONE has to be blamed… so one idea is to blame “Big Bird” and PBS.  I think maybe Americans should consider that instead of flippin the PBS bird…we should be standing up to our politicians and flippin’ the bird as a symbol of our disappointment.

Keep moving!
