Is Your Sunscreen Doing It's Job?

Sunlight exposure causes your body to produce Vitamin D naturally.

Sunlight exposure causes your body to produce Vitamin D naturally.  This power packed nutrient benefits your body by building strong bones, increasing muscle strength, supports optimal cardiovascular health, regulates healthy kidney function, and maintains a healthy immune system.  Unfortunately we live in the midwest where 15 minutes of daily sun exposure does not occur all year round.

The summer months give us the best opportunity to soak up the sun and allow our bodies to produce this naturally.  However, some sunscreens prohibit this vital process.  When sunscreen is applied to your skin, it is absorbed directly into your blood stream.  Many sunscreens contain toxic chemicals that can be detrimental to your health.

Then there’s the great debate whether sunscreen prevents skin cancer.  Sunscreen will in fact prevent sunburns like it was designed for.  But there is lack of evidence in research to claim it protects against skin cancer.

For a list of potentially toxic ingredients, brand effectiveness, and further information I would highly encourage you to look around on this link: http://breakingnews.ewg.org/2011sunscreen/  Remember, your skin is the bodies largest organ and the first line of defense so if you wouldn’t eat the product, why would you choose to put it on your skin?
