Bear Down: Giving Thanks

I'm thankful for my Bears!

If an alien were to knock on my front door right now and ask me, "What is this Thanksgiving you humans celebrate? I've traveled many light years to return home with this answer" I would reply, "AHHHHH!!  Get away from me alien!!".  I would then try to collect myself and tell it, "Well, Thanksgiving is the greatest holiday of them all.  No one works on that day and you get to spend quality time with your family while drinking dark beer, watching football and eating until you hate yourself.  Then you nap and repeat.  It's perfect!"

If all holidays were represented by a Baldwin, Thanksgiving would certainly be Alec (Groundhog Day would be the one in rehab).  It's the best.  So in honor of this glorious day I figured I'd share what I am thankful for when it comes to the Bears (and a few other things).  They just defeated the Chargers 31-20 for their fifth straight victory so there is plenty of thanks to go round.

*I am thankful for Jay Cutler.  His numbers don't do justice for how good of a season he is having.  Do you remember those games in his first year with the Bears where he'd throw three, sometimes four interceptions?!  The quarterback we have now is nothing close to that guy.  Everything about his game has improved but none more then him as a leader.  If i were one of his teammates I would battle for him any day of the week.  Like T.O. said "That's my quarterback!"

*I am thankful for Julius Peppers.  He's another one where his stats aren't doing him any justice.  Every snap a team takes against the Bears they have to assign two sometimes three guys to try and stop him.  Did you see the play last week where he was running down Stafford on a QB scramble.  In the replay looking at Matt's face you could see the exact moment he sharted his pants.  It was great, and so is Peppers.

*I am thankful for our offensive line.  After the first three weeks of the season the OL has played very good.  Seeing how almost every spot on the line is new this year from last it is very impressive.  Add on top of that the injuries the line has sustained and you can't do anything but give it up to Mike Tice and the big boys up front.  Lance Louis has emerged as my favorite to focus on during games.  The guy can maul.

*I am thankful for the new Florence + The Machine album "Ceremonials".  This girl can sing.  If you aren't hip to her yet, pause your Adele cd and give her a spin.  You'll be thankful too!

*I am thankful for Lovie Smith.  He's the best coach in Chicago right now (Coach Thibs isn't recognized by my panel of one because the NBA is on my shhh...poop list).  Every year since he's been here he's put a top class product on the field.  I hope we can get him a ring before his time is up here.

*I am thankful for Devin Hester.  Ok, so since MJ retired (from the Bulls) what have been the most anticipated and exciting plays in sports?  I've got Sammy coming up to the plate in the '98 season (*finger in my ears* LA LA LA I can't hear you.  Blah Blah Blah Steroids Blah Blah), Brady play action drop going deep to Moss in the '07 season and Devin lining up for a punt since his rookie year.  The scary part, he's returning punts better this year then any other year.  That dude is good.

*I am thankful for the new Showtime show "Homeland".  If you have Showtime I really hope you're watching this show.  It's Claire Danes' best work (yes, better then T3!) and it is just sooo good.  It's my favorite show on air right now and that includes Boardwalk!

I could go on much longer with different aspects of this team that I am thankful for.  They are playing at an elite level and are a top three team in the NFC right now.  The team is coming together at the right time and I don't see them going anywhere but up from here on out.  It's just a shame that the Packers have a quarterback playing better then any quarterback EVER and the division is out of reach. Hopefully we get to see them in the playoffs.  I want them.  I ain't scuuured.

So after I explained what Thanksgiving is and all the things about the Bears I'm thankful for to my new alien friend I would end by telling it I'm most thankful for having the best family in the world and that I can't wait to spend the next couple of days with them.  I wish you all a wonderfull Thanksgiving and as always, go Bearssssssss!!
