Social Media: Do I Really Need it?

Social Media: Why is it the Most Important Marketing Tool?

I recently had a client ask me if Social Media was all that important, and do they really need it. Here’s my response to that question.

Social Media even at the basic level is an integral part of getting recognized by the search engines, and you need it in order to have a strong web presence. Social Media is just one of the pieces needed to optimized your web prescence. Without it the Search Engine results will not be as stellar as they could be. Imagine taking a wheel off a car. It is also a way to make your company, product or service stand out, with its own personality. It allows prospects a chance to get to know, like and trust you. It is also interactive and engages with customers, and no other On-Line method achieves this.

Social Media is doing nothing but spreading even further into mainstream marketing, including major corporations. It is what levels the playing field for the little guy to appear relevant and influential so he can compete with the big guy.

Mainstream Example:

• The Olympics entire broadcast had Social Media woven into it throughout their broadcasting, getting people involved and interactive.

“In the four years since the Beijing Games, use of social media platforms has surged. Facebook has gone from about 100 million active users to about 900 million, Twitter from six million to about 150 million. Many more people now have smartphones, so they can react immediately to something they have seen in a stadium, arena, court, pool, ring or velodrome. Clearly the London Games will be tweeted, tagged, liked, blogged, mashed and rehashed like no previous Olympics."

• Princess Cruises just launched a Social Media campaign on Pinterest!

“In an industry first, Santa Clarita, California-based Princess Cruises has launched a Pinterest contest asking fans to submit photos that show themselves relaxing. The ‘How I Escape Completely’ competition requires participants to create boards on Pinterest to show exactly what escape completely means to them.”

Social Media is here to stay, and growing into more of our every day lives, business and personally, every day. It’s changing the way people do business.

Just my 2 cents.
