Keep Lips Kissable for the Mistletoe this Holiday Season!!

As we get closer to Santa coming and the opportunity to sneak a kiss under the mistletoe..I am addressing the classic age old problem of winter…dry lips!! Everyone has faced the horrible cracking lips, chapped “burning” feeling and unattractive peeling that feels like your lips are going to fall off at one time or another. So, this winter season get your lips “kissably” soft with the three easy steps of exfoliate, protect and moisturize….leaving the cracking and burning to the chestnuts by the fireplace!!

Question from Anka from Naperville: How do I keep my lips smooth and soft all winter season long?!?

Lori Majors Answers:

A: Lips are the most sensitive part of the human body to the weather. The lips have fewer oil glands than other parts of body; making them an easy target for getting dry quickly and cracked in the winter months. Unlike our hands and head that can be covered with gloves and hats...our lips are not so fortunate. To protect your lips and keep them soft follow three easy steps...exfoliate, protect and moisturize.

Step 1) Exfoliate is essential to removing dead skin cells to make room for fresh skin cells. You could do this in a couple of ways. There are lip scrubs available from various companies that will exfoliate the lips; and of course I love the Mary Kay Satin Lips Mask & Lip Balm Set!! The results are amazing and I use the mask every couple of days to maximize the removal of dead skin cells and the lip balm daily and frequently to have the softest lips!! But, if you are not wanting to invest in a lip scrub you could make a paste of baking soda and water and use as a scrub, massaging your lips gently with your fingers or use a toothbrush. You can rinse away with warm water and a wet washcloth to whisk away the dry, dead skin cells.

Step 2) Protect your lips in the sun and in all-weather climates, especially the winter months. Whether you are casually out in the sun or playing in the sun and winter elements...protect your lips with a lip balm that has an SPF to help fight the chapping and drying of the outdoors. Try to remember whenever you go out into the elements; you must protect your lips to keep them healthy and unchapped!! Cracked lips only cause pain, tears and never are a good look.

Step 3) Moisturize daily and often with a lip balm that has moisturizing ingredients like Vitamins A and E, Antioxidants, Aloe, etc. When you have the proper moisture in your lip balm, your lips will glow with softness and radiance; hence not having to have chapped, burnt, peeling lips that only bring pain to one’s body!!

When you maintain and follow through of these three steps daily, you will be able to maintain and have kissable lips all season long!!
