This week I am addressing the subject that regardless of race, age or gender affects us all during the winter months…dry hands!!! With the harsh effects of the winter months, the hands are the one body part that feels the winter more than any other part. Washing, moisturizing and wear gloves are the essentials to keeping hands warm in this winter season of our beloved Chicago!!

Gigi-Your skin becomes dry when it loses two things: its natural oils and water. To remedy this, you need to pay attention to how you wash as well as moisturize them.

The air in a harsh, winter climate is often dehumidified, which means it doesn’t just pull moisture out of the environment but your skin as well. Plus, people tend to wash their hands more in the winter and exposure to harsh soaps and solvents can strip your skin of its oils. It’s great to use a mild glycerin soap if possible, as glycerin is a humectant, which means it will bind water in the skin. Also, twice a week it’s great to exfoliate to buff away dead skin cells. Moisturize your hands immediately after washing them to seal in the moisture.
