Naperville Teen Competing for Distinguished Young Women Scholarship

The Distinguished Young Women of Illinois winner will go on to compete in the Distinguished Young Women of America competition in June in Mobile, Ala.

She is already a distinguished young woman, but on Sunday, Naperville's Allison Scharf will be competing against seven other high school seniors from across Illinois in the 55th annual Distinguished Young Women of Illinois scholarship competition.

The event will be held in Bolingbrook and contestants will be evaluated based on scholastics, interview, talent, fitness, and self-expression.

The young woman selected as the Distinguished Young Women of Illinois will travel in June to Mobile, Alabama, where she will participate in personal development activities and community service projects before competing for the opportunity to become the Distinguished Young Women of America for 2012 and for a share of more than $125,000 in cash scholarships.

Formerly known as Illinois’ Junior Miss, the program will be held at 3 p.m. at the  in Bolingbrook, 251 Canterbury Lane.

Tickets for the program, which will be available at the door, are $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.
