Labor Day Parade Time-Lapse Video

Video of the day!

One of the challenges for me as a photographer is trying to find new ways to document something that I've already photographed a dozens times or so. I'm sure all creative types have to re-evaluate how they look at their subjects. Luckily, technology keeps advancing and providing us with new tools to help us see the world.

Every year I photograph the Naperville Labor Day parade. But this year I thought that I'd take some photos from the point of view of the parade looking back at the people. Then it occurred to me that it would be interesting to show the entire parade... but who would want to sit through all that?

My solution was to take one of the GoPro HD cameras that we used during the Space Shuttle project and mount it to the driver's side mirror on the Naperville Trolley. I programmed the camera to take a photo every 5 seconds and then stitched all the images together to condense the entire parade into a quick 45 second trip through town.
